Lakers have talked to Bulls about Jabari Parker

The Los Angeles Lakers have their heart set on Anthony Davis at the trade deadline, but as Thursday creeps nearer and nearer, it is on the lookout likelier than not that the New Orleans Pelicans will hold on to him for the rest of the year. If that is the situation, the Lakers would have to look in other places for enhancements, and according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, they have already talked about a person this kind of addition. On his Hoop Collective podcast (h/t Bryan Kalbrosky of Hoops Hype), he noted that the Lakers have experienced discussions with the Chicago Bulls about acquiring previous No. 2 general choose Jabari Parker.

The deal would be centered around Parker and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, whom the Lakers ended up reportedly trying to find a deal for earlier in the year. While Windhorst pressured that a deal is not specific, he did notice the likelihood that “Parker could be a Laker within just the subsequent couple times.” No make a difference how probably it is, this deal would raise much more issues than solutions.

The Lakers already have many rating-initially forwards. LeBron James certainly monopolizes rather a couple pictures, but the enhancement of Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma is particularly essential as nicely. Introducing Parker to the combine would only clutter the frontcourt even much more. The Lakers already will need to find minutes for three centers. Putting four scoring forwards in the combine (5 if you contain Michael Beasley) would complicate matters even much more for Luke Walton, in particular if their purported fascination in Carmelo Anthony is reputable.

And then there is the make a difference of changing Caldwell-Pope. He got off to a sluggish start off this year, and that is where by the preliminary trade rumors around him came from. But he enhanced soon after James went down on Xmas, giving very essential defense and a bit of added scoring in both of those the commencing lineup and off of the bench. His three-level shot remains inconsistent, but he has a apparent function on the Lakers without the need of an fast substitution in place.

It is really not even a certainty that Caldwell-Pope accepts the deal. As he is on a a person-calendar year deal and is in line for Early Fowl Legal rights this offseason, he has the correct to veto any trade. Likely from a playoff staff to a cellar dweller will not look like a fantastic way to boost his market worth. The Bulls would have to persuade him that the added enjoying time he would get in Chicago would be worthy of the dropping that he would endure there.

All in all, this would be a rather perplexing trade for the Lakers. But most of their moves this calendar year have been perplexing on some level. The Lakers have placed an emphasis on ball-managing and shot generation to an serious rarely witnessed in the modern-day NBA. Introducing Parker would their way of doubling down on that stylistic decision.
